Zootopia is a sugary, saccharine mess of predictable plot points and forced emotional appeals. The animation, while visually appealing, feels like a desperate attempt to mimic Pixar’s best work, resulting in a muddy, uninspired experience. The characters are cartoonishly exaggerated and lack genuine depth, making their interactions feel hollow and contrived. The film’s insistence on a simplistic, almost preachy message about tolerance – a concept desperately needing nuance – undermines its own ambitions. The plot, relying on tired tropes and predictable twists, is a slog to watch. The voice acting, while competent, fails to elevate the material beyond a mildly amusing spectacle. The humor is uneven, often relying on cheap gags and slapstick that feels jarringly out of place.
